چکیده
The report of this single case study describes the preservation of a simple semantic category in a severely anomic patient. The implications for the organisation of semantic knowledge are discussed.

Testing for nominal dysphasia.
In this paper we have described the construction of a graded naming test that makes the distinction between object and proper names. This distinction was prompted by a single case study of a patient who showed a specific naming impairment for a particular class of proper names. Naming vocabulary was found to be highly correlated with other measures of verbal intelligence and we have discussed t...
متن کاملNeuropsychological evidence for the temporal dynamics of category-specific naming
Multiple accounts have been proposed to explain category-specific recognition impairments. Some suggest that category-specific deficits may be caused by a deficit in recurrent processing between the levels of a hierarchically organized visual object recognition system. Here, we tested predictions of interactive processing theories on the emergence of category-selective naming deficits in neurol...
متن کاملNoun and knowledge retrieval for biological and non-biological entities following right occipitotemporal lesions.
We investigated the critical contribution of right ventral occipitotemporal cortex to knowledge of visual and functional-associative attributes of biological and non-biological entities and how this relates to category-specificity during confrontation naming. In a consecutive series of 7 patients with lesions confined to right ventral occipitotemporal cortex, we conducted an extensive assessmen...
متن کاملDifferent variables predict anomia in different subjects: a longitudinal study of two Alzheimer's patients.
Two Alzheimer's patients participated in a longitudinal study of picture naming aimed at analysing the effect of lexical frequency, age of acquisition, stimulus familiarity, word length, name imageability, visual complexity and semantic category membership on naming success. The results were analysed with a new method [Capitani, E., & Laiacona, M. (2004). A method for studying the evolution of ...
متن کاملCategory-specific Naming Deficit after Epilepsy Surgery in the Left Temporal Lobe: Fact or Fiction?
Objective. Object naming for specific semantic categories was assessed in a sample of 24 patients with left temporal lobe epilepsy. Testing occurred during preoperative clinical diagnostics and 6 months after surgery. Background. Category-specific deficits constitute a naming disorder for living or nonliving objects or subsets of these categories (e.g. animals, fruits, tools) with relatively sp...
